Corporate Strategy

Strategy earns its value through the choices it forces.

Onnova works with boards, owners and leadership teams to decide where to play, how to win and where to invest, grounded in industry economics, profit pools and competitive position.

The work spans group and business unit strategy, portfolio and capital allocation, and growth beyond the core. Every recommendation is tested for feasibility, funding and organisational readiness before it reaches the board, then converted into a roadmap with owners, milestones and financial targets that the organisation can execute.

The outcome is a strategy the board can govern and management can deliver: fewer, bolder priorities; a clear investment case; and measurable targets with named owners.

Progress is tracked against agreed indicators, so that leadership can see where value is being created, where it is slipping and where effort should be redeployed

What You Gain

Clarity on where to win

A fact-based view of attractive profit pools, your right to win in each and the trade-offs between them. Leadership aligns on a small number of explicit priorities, supported by a shared fact base rather than competing opinions; this shortens debate, avoids initiatives that dilute focus and gives every function a common answer to where the organisation will win and why.

Capital directed to returns

Investment, portfolio and resource decisions are tested against value at stake, risk and funding capacity. Capital moves to the initiatives that earn their place and away from those that do not; the board gains a transparent basis for approving, sequencing or stopping investments, and lenders and investors see a credible link between strategy and returns.

A plan that gets delivered

A board-ready roadmap with owners, milestones, financial targets and a governance rhythm. Decisions are carried through to measurable impact: initiatives launch on time, progress is reported against plan and effort is redeployed where returns are strongest; so the strategy remains a living management tool rather than a document that is filed after approval.

What We Do

Strategy review

A full review of ambition, portfolio and competitive position. Industry economics, profit pools and customer shifts are analysed to establish where value is created and where it is eroding; strategic options are then tested against the organisation's capabilities, balance sheet and appetite for risk, and ranked on value at stake, feasibility and time to impact. The result is a short list of choices that leadership can commit to with confidence.

Growth beyond the core

Adjacent products, segments and geographies are assessed on market size, margin potential, strategic fit and capability gap. Each option is sized bottom-up and tested against competitor moves and customer demand; the preferred routes are then sequenced into a staged plan that states where to build, where to partner and where to acquire, and what each step requires in capital and talent.

Portfolio and capital choices

Resource allocation is linked directly to value creation. Business cases, funding options and stage gates are prepared so that the board can decide which businesses to grow, fix, hold or exit and how much capital each deserves; with clear return thresholds, risk limits and a transparent view of the trade-offs between short-term performance and long-term position.

How We Work

Diagnose

Hypothesis-led analysis of markets, customers, competitors and economics establishes the starting position and sizes the value at stake. Management interviews, data requests and external benchmarks are combined into a single fact base within the first weeks, so that the first leadership workshop debates choices rather than data.

Design

Strategic options are developed with the leadership team, stress-tested against scenarios and ranked on value, risk and feasibility. The preferred strategy is translated into a target position, an investment plan, financial targets and a roadmap with milestones; and presented to the board in a form that supports a clear decision.

Deliver

Senior advisors stay involved after approval. Initiatives are mobilised, owners are named and a performance cadence tracks impact against plan; as results arrive, priorities and resources are adjusted. The engagement closes only when management owns the plan and the first measurable results are visible.
